Female-Led Startups win big at Ghana Tech Lab’s National Startups Investment Pitch Summit.
Female-led startups have won big at the just-ended National Startups Investment Pitch Summit (NSIPS) organized by Ghana Tech Lab.
The event which was held at the Accra Digital Center, saw five female innovators of 3 groups as winners after the pitch rating was declared.
The National Startup Investment Pitch Summit (NSIPS) is an event that accords incubatees in the Ghana Tech Lab incubator program the opportunity to pitch their final startup ideas to potential investors, stakeholders, and the general public.
The event saw 11 teams pitch and exhibit their Mobile app ideas. Among the distinguished guests that attended the event was the Deputy Minister of Communications, Hon. Vincent Sowah Odotei.
The Minister reiterated that, a few months ago, Ghana Tech Lab was just a mere structure but for the intervention of government through the eTransform Project of the Ministry of Communications and funding from the World Bank, Ghana Tech Lab is now a full-fledged mlab.
He went on to state that, the government is committed to bringing digital transformation into the country and helping more youths to develop businesses around tech. He encouraged investors to support the various startup ideas that were pitched by the young entrepreneurs.
Belinda Soglo and Isaac Batsa won the best startup idea at the end of the pitch ratings scored by distinguished guests. Their app, the BEBA app, is a healthcare platform that makes registered pharmacies easily accessible to patients and caretakers.
The Diabetica app startup pitch by Delight Osei and Yayra Yawo Nutsakpui won the first runner up place at the end of the pitch rating. The Diabetica app as its name suggests is an app designed to assist diabetic patients.
The second runner-ups, Elorm Axorlu and Ebi-yaa Kwaw pitched the Xpendly app ideas. Xpendly is a financial tracker that helps individuals to better manage their finances.
Other startup ideas that were pitched on the day ranged from healthcare, agritech, crime reporting, transportation, and fin-tech apps.
The NSIPS Event
The event began with a tour into the open collaborative tech space of Ghana Tech lab led by the Managing Associate, Edward Akani.
Mr. Nelson Madiba Amo, the Executive Director of Ghana Tech Lab then gave the opening remarks.
The Deputy Minister of Communications, Hon. Vincent Sowah Odotei delivered the keynote speech.
There was a panel that had discussions on Startup Investment, Entrepreneurial Innovation in Ghana, Employability (Job Market) — connecting to the global market, and Access to startup capital.
Then after, the pitching of the various startups began. There were pitches from 11 teams of innovators.
The technical innovation, creativity, execution of idea and the pitch among others were scored by a panel of distinguished judges.
There was also an investment panel who probed the pitches by the young entrepreneurs at the event.
It has been a whole 3-month journey for these young innovators as they find their feet in the tech startup ecosystem. They have gone from a one-month training through mobile app development to a 1-week intensive boot camp then a hackathon. They were then taken through 2 months of intensive incubation where they were exposed to the right business development and technical training and support to help build their ideas into a full-fledged product and services of economic value.
