AI Startup, Diagnosify is leveraging advanced technology to aid patients with proficient diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases in the health sector of Ghana.

The idea for Diagnosify was conceived by Samuel Abbey and Michael Asante while participating in a free Artificial intelligence training program at the Ghana Tech Lab in Accra, Ghana.

The startup uses artificial intelligence to diagnose skin diseases, predict the name of the disease, give its severity level and assign patients to pharmaceutical services or dermatologists.

The two budding entrepreneurs working together

After an initial sign up on the platform, a patient can easily get to scan a skin disease by taking a picture of it. The platform subsequently provides patients with details about the skin disease and leads them to either book an appointment with a dermatologist or receive the right pharmaceutical service.

Michael Asante, co-founder of Diagnosify added that there are also various health tips a patient can access on the app and a feature that will help doctors monitor a patient’s recovery process.

Following the free artificial intelligence training organized by Ghana Tech Lab, the pair pitched their startup idea at a local hackathon stage which saw them being selected for a 10 weeks incubation program.

In this bootcamp experience, these budding entrepreneurs are being assisted with business and technical skills that will help transform their ideas into real-time products and services that are sustainable and of market value.

Diagnosify, the artificial intelligence platform is being deployed to function on both mobile app and web-based platforms.

The startup is geared towards bridging the gap between patients and the few dermatologists we have in Ghana.

According to Michael Asante, the startup has also secured some partnerships with clinics, pharmacies, and dermatologists in order to come on board and aid with the treatment of skin diseases.

“There are a lot of patients with unknown skin conditions that suffer at large. The lack of proper diagnosis and reach to the required dermatologist and pharmacies have basically fueled the risk of suffering.” Samuel Abbey expressed.

He continued to add that diagnosify is being deployed to help give a proficient diagnosis of skin diseases and bridge the gap between patients and dermatologists in the country.

Under the auspices of the World Bank and the E-Transform project of the Ministry of Communications Ghana, Ghana Tech Lab is currently enrolling 28 artificial intelligence startup ideas across 9 regions in the country through its incubation program.

The mission of this incubator program is to help drive artificial intelligence innovations in Ghana by aiding innovative AI startup ideas with tangible resources, expert coaching and giving young entrepreneurs a real chance to succeed.
