14 Ghanaian artificial intelligence (AI) startups seek to disrupt various industries in Ghana and Africa — NSIPS (2nd Edition)
Fostering new innovations that improve systems and transform societies
Fourteen Ghanaian artificial intelligence startups in the Ghana Tech Lab incubator program pitched their innovative ideas that seek to compete with industries in Ghana and Africa.
The second edition of NSIPS which took place at the Accra Digital Centre is an investment event that provides an opportunity to startups in the GTL training and incubator programs to pitch their ideas to investors for possible investments.
This comes after some 300 youths were trained in Artificial Intelligence through the Ghana Tech Lab initiative to upskill, develop and grow viable startups that solve pertinent problems in the country.
For a broader impact, 10 hubs from 9 regions in the country were partnered to roll-out the GTL training and incubator program.
At the end of the over one-month training program, participants formed teams to develop solutions to some of the pressing challenges in our society.
Some best ideas were selected after a local hackathon and assisted to further develop their solutions. A total of 28 teams were selected and given the necessary technical and business support for 2 months.
A total number of 14 startups out of the 28 teams made it to the National Startup Investment Pitch Summit where their pitches were assessed by both investors and distinguished judges.
At the end of the fiercely contested pitching competition, the following teams Diagnosify and Fondo were adjudged first and second runners-up respectively.
Interec, who develop a real-time user identification solution to check examination malpractices walked home with the ultimate prize as the winner of the second edition of the National Startup Investment Pitch Summit competition.
In addition to cash prizes for the three winners, each startup that pitched received mobile phones for their businesses by the kind courtesy of KaiOS, a US-based mobile operating system company.
The Tech Lab is a joint venture between Innohub and Kumasi Hive with funding from the World Bank under the eTransform Project of the Ministry of Communication Ghana.
